- Description: Odoo is powerful, but its interface still makes simple things take too many clicks. Five everyday UI frictions - truncated tags, uncopyable list values, hidden export and more - and how to fix each one.

Odoo is a great ERP - but anyone who uses it eight hours a day knows the interface is not always optimized for the person clicking. None of these issues is a bug. Each one is a small design choice that costs a few seconds. Multiply those seconds by every user, every day, and you get hours of lost time and a lot of frustration.

Here are five UI frictions I see in almost every Odoo project, and how to fix each one.

## 1\. Long tags are cut off with "..."

Many2many tags have a fixed maximum width and never wrap. A tag like *"Enterprise Human Resource Management System Project 2026"* becomes *"Enterprise Human Resource Mana..."*. You can't read it at a glance, and you can't select and copy it either - clicking the tag opens the color picker or the record.

**Why it matters**: tags often carry real business meaning - customer segments, project phases, product categories. If users can't read them, they stop trusting them.

**Fix**: [Many2many Tags Full Text](https://odoonotes.com/m2m-tags-fulltext/) shows every tag in full in form, list and kanban views, and lets you select and copy the text. Odoo 14 to 19\. Details: [why Odoo truncates tags](https://odoonotes.com/odoo-many2many-tags-truncated-show-full-text/).

## 2\. You can't simply copy a value from a list view

In a list view, a click on a row opens the record. So copying one email, phone number or order reference means: open the record, find the field, select, copy, go back - and repeat for the next one. Copying a whole column means exporting a file.

**Why it matters**: sales, accounting and support teams copy values from lists all day long - into emails, chats and spreadsheets.

**Fix**: [List View Copy Cell](https://odoonotes.com/copy-value-cell/) adds a clipboard icon on hover to copy any cell, and copies a whole column when you click its header - ready to paste into Excel. Details: [how to copy cells and columns](https://odoonotes.com/copy-cell-value-odoo-list-view/).

## 3\. Export is hard to find

In Odoo 16 "Export All" was a visible download button in the list toolbar. Since Odoo 17 it lives inside the gear menu next to the view title - and it disappears as soon as you select a record. Users without the export access right don't see it at all.

**Fix**: show your team where it is, and grant the *Access to export feature* right to the users who need it. Full guide: [how to export Odoo list view data to Excel](https://odoonotes.com/export-odoo-list-view-to-excel/).

## 4\. List columns cut off long text

Long descriptions, names and references in list views are truncated with "..." to keep rows on one line.

**Fix (built-in)**: drag the border of a column header to widen it, and use the optional-columns toggle at the end of the header row to hide columns you don't need, so the important ones get more room.

## 5\. Dropdowns show only a few results

Many2one fields (customer, product, salesperson...) show only 7 matches in the dropdown, followed by "Search More...". With similar names - think "Nguyen" in Vietnam - the record you want is often not in the first 7.

**Fix (built-in)**: type a more specific part of the name, or the internal reference / code; or open "Search More..." to get a full searchable list with filters.

## Small fixes, big daily impact

None of these will appear in an ERP feature comparison, but they are what users complain about at the coffee machine. Fixing them is one of the cheapest ways to make a team happier with Odoo.

I build small, focused apps for exactly these frictions - see all [Odoo apps](https://odoonotes.com/odoo-apps/).
